What is open space technology?
A gathering of people who create and manage their own agenda of parallel or intersecting discussions or activities. After being introduced to the principles and practices at the very beginning, everyone is invited to build the event schedule.
Individuals propose sessions they’d like to lead or like to see someone else step up and lead. Quickly, almost if by magic, a schedule emerges, composed of sessions around topics people feel like pursuing.
Use the power of your own two feet to choose your adventure. There will always be a quiet space inside and out available for decompression, parallel crafting or just resting.
Coming on time means you get to help shape the day, will be well-informed of your options, and may find yourself in the flow sooner than if you arrive later. More folks who come on time enhance the possibilities for everyone.
Who is Invited?
This is an invitation-only event for a few reasons(space constraints, security for ex.), but each person invited is welcome to bring another adult they trust.Children are welcome as well. Only pets June & David already know and trust can tag along. Please check in ahead.
Parking at our place is limited to 20 vehicles, but we have some potential neighborhood overflow spots depending on the weekend. That’s why we’re asking for an RSVP.
RSVP 503-758-4509(cell) or thujajune@gmail.com
Thank you for understanding!
Texting or calling after the event start may not get a response right away.
So there’s a Schedule?
There is a start time and end time, and those who wish to collaborate on the agenda for the day should arrive between 12-12:30pm to set the topic schedule.
What you can expect from the schedule:
12 Arrive and park, get comfy and oriented
12:30 Group agenda creation: what needs repair? what would you like to learn? What did you bring to share? What topics would you like to discuss? teaching something?
1:00 All the juicy stuff in the agenda happens
5 Group transition and shares highlights from day and looks ahead toward next time.
5:30-6 Good-byes
Can I bring anything?
Bring what you’d like to make, share, repair, give away or exchange. In addition, a sliding scale gift to the house in the spirit of community (examples):
toilet pape
tea
snacks
$ for electricity or materials
It all makes a difference. Not able to bring something each time? Next time then! No one is keeping track.
Resource exchange: A table will be set up for sharing resources, items for exchange or free. There will also be a sandwich board for announcing what you need or seeking, plus what you have up for grabs but didn’t bring.
Still kind of wondering what you’re getting into?
Picture multiple spacious rooms, porches and groves of trees, find your niche, just listen in or share what makes sense. Bring your tomatoes to process on the stove while learning how to replace a zipper, or share how to replace a zipper, sharpen your knives while a group in the next room talks about emergency communication systems or bulk food ordering. Go outside and sit with the cedars or rock in a hammock while a white-crowned sparrow tells you what’s up. Ask for an impromptu grief circle or death cafe. Offer a hug.
